Melanoma is a cancer that unfortunately too many people are unaware of, however rates are rising rapidly on a global scale, having tripled in the last 30 years. It is however preventable with good sun protection habits, and although it can be fatal, many lives can be saved each year with more awareness around early detection.
The Melanoma Fund is a charity based in Kent and Sussex which focuses on raising awareness of melanoma and other types of skin cancer via three national media campaigns, targeting those at the highest risk. The Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code to ensure children have adequate sun protection when attending organised outdoor activity, Watch Your Back! which focuses on gardeners and horticulturists, and Slip! Slap! Swing! for all in golf.
Charity golf day
To raise awareness in the local community, the charity has announced they are holding their very first golf day. Slip! Slap! Swing! in September will be held at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate, in Horsham Sussex on the 15th of September. The day will provide the chance for golfers of all abilities, to enjoy a day of first-class sport, social networking, food and wine, and entertainment including a golf show from Jeremy Dale, the UKs most innovative trick shot artist, a 10-minute skin check from leading dermatologists, and an appearance by Ryder Cup winner, Paul Way for some after-dinner entertainment.
Local business sponsorship
The charity is inviting local businesses to sponsor elements of the day. With national and regional media covering the event, and lots of added benefits, this provides a great opportunity to get in front of a highly targeted audience, within a lavish setting.
