For over a century, Jarvis Brook Memorial Hall has served the local community – and now it needs your support.
The land was gifted to the people of Jarvis Brook in the 1920s for educational and recreational use. During the First World War, it operated as a hospital facility, and today it provides a venue for a range of community groups and classes.
Inside, the building offers a flexible space with a bright main hall, committee room, kitchen, storage facilities and private parking. It has also been adapted for improved accessibility.
The hall is currently home to dance and yoga classes, a dog club, and is available for private hire and special events. The hall has heating installed throughout and is available for hire all year round.
However, due to its age, the building now faces structural issues that must be addressed to safeguard its future. Like many village halls across the country, it is a registered charity (Charity number: 305270) and is maintained by just three dedicated trustees.
Leading the fundraising is trustee Gaynor Kendall, who has launched a Go Fund Me page. Building quotes obtained so far estimate the cost of repairs at nearly £40,000, although this may rise depending on what further work is identified.
Gaynor is also exploring grant applications and other funding options to support the fundraising effort. At present, the hall’s only income comes from hire fees.
