A series of images of the different courses enjoyed at Crows Nest Supper Club

For the past three years, the Crows Nest Supper Club has been quietly delighting food lovers from a 5-star rated kitchen, offering an intimate, social dining experience hosted in the home of local chef, Deb Marquardt, alongside her husband, Barry.

This is no ordinary supper. Guests are not handed a menu in advance but are instead given the theme of the evening.  When I visited, the title was Summer Vibes. For adventurous diners, this sense of surprise is part of the magic.  However, if you are a fussy eater or have a long list of dietary requirements, this may not be the experience for you.  That said, Deb can happily cater with vegetarian or pescatarian alternatives.

Each sitting welcomes a maximum of ten guests, ensuring a warm, sociable atmosphere.  On arrival, Barry greets you at the door, makes introductions, and helps you feel immediately at ease.  As conversation begins to flow, Deb appears with beautifully presented canapés, accompanied by a glass of wine or a soft drink, setting the tone for the evening ahead.

Although many of the guests were couples, I attended solo and felt entirely comfortable thanks to the welcoming nature of both the hosts and the group.  Soon, Barry guided us all into the dining room where the evening’s first course was announced.  Guests are invited to bring their own drinks, with water and glasses provided.

The five-course menu may sound indulgent, yet the portion sizes are thoughtfully balanced.  Each dish is satisfying without ever becoming overwhelming, allowing you to savour every plate.  Between courses, there was never any sense of being rushed; Barry collected the dishes only once everyone was ready before announcing the next delight.

The dining room created the perfect backdrop for this memorable experience. Conversations flowed easily between guests, some of whom had met at previous events or knew each other from the community.  The mix of personalities added to the charm, creating a unique sense of togetherness that only such an intimate setting can provide.

Having dined at many of London’s top restaurants thanks to my father’s passion for food, I found this evening every bit as refined, yet with the added joy of being close to home.  Offering exceptional value for money, it was a truly memorable evening of fine food, warm company and local flair.

Thank you Deb & Barry!
