Diane from Seated Exercise Crowborough

After practising as a solicitor for many years, local resident Dianne Nickolls decided to try something new and qualified as a Chair Based Exercise Teacher with EXTEND Exercise.  She then set up her own business called “Seated Exercise” and is now running regular classes at Crowborough Community Centre.

The classes are Chair Based Exercise for older adults (both men and women) and will suit all levels of fitness, even someone who has not exercised before, has limited mobility and/or who is returning to physical activity after illness/injury/surgery or those awaiting treatment, e.g. a joint replacement.

The focus is on what you CAN Do.  You work to your own ability and progress from there.

It is recommended that older adults should aim for a total of at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week and Dianne’s Seated Exercise classes can help you work towards achieving that.

The classes are varied and include a warm up, aerobic activity (to help improve your stamina by challenging and improving the function of the heart, lungs and circulatory system), strength exercises (for example thigh, arm, ankle and wrist) using equipment, stretches to help flexibility and a few minutes of relaxation to finish off.

The classes consist of mainly seated exercise with some standing, although it is possible to remain seated throughout.

The benefits of EXTEND classes include:

  • Improved performance of activities of daily living
  • Improved mobility and co-ordination
  • Improved strength and flexibility
  • Increased confidence and independence
  • Reduced Fatigue

Most importantly, they are fun!

The classes take place at Crowborough Community Centre:

Tuesdays at 10am and 11.30am, Wednesdays at 10am

Dianne also offers Zoom participation and 1-to-1 sessions.
