If you go to the top of Argos Hill you will find nestled in the trees, a prime example of a unique Sussex post mill.  This nearly 200 hundred year old, listed windmill, is one of only approximately 50 remaining post mills in the whole country.   Before the industrial revolution, windmills were to be found on almost every hill, providing flour for the populace and bakers for our bread.  Sadly, they have nearly all gone.

The Argos Hill Windmill Trust volunteers have very sympathetically restored this post mill, built in c.1835, to near full working order.  During her lifetime, she has survived many winter storms, in particular the 1987 ‘hurricane’, which devastated the whole of the South East and severely damaged Argos Hill Mill.

To see the resurrection of this historic landmark and learn how post mills worked, everyone is invited to visit the mill on our 10 public open days.  In addition, educational school trips are possible by arrangement.

Our enthusiastic volunteers will be happy to take you on a guided tour and explain all that we have done, showing you the internal workings on all four floors.  We provide free refreshments and free off-road parking.  (It should be noted that there are no toilets in this mill).

Our work is entirely funded by donations so, while our open days are free, if you would like to provide a donation towards the constant maintenance and further restoration, we would be sincerely grateful.  We are also always keen to meet new volunteers who would be interested in helping with our work.
